Furthermore our beginner students are given the chance to play in a big orchestra (Coole Tutti Orchestra) with string and wind students of all levels.
The Play-Day has been a great experience in every way for our students, and the number of participants grows each year.
In the morning each chamber group (quartet, trio, quintet) is assigned a room and a tutor. Tutors are scheduled from the Coole Music Faculty and others hired in for the day. We have also been very fortunate to have the Con Tempo String Quartet teaching with us at this event in previous years. In 2009 we had twelve groups and are expecting at least fifteen for 2010. The chamber groups get two one-hour coaching sessions on pieces they individually prepared the previous weeks. The results are performed in a lively informal concert in the evening.
In the afternoon the 'Coole-Tutti-Orchestra' (literally all the kids together) forms to rehearse at least five tunes students previously prepared in different parts in their ensembles and fiddle fun groups.
The age group in the Coole-Tutti-Orchestra ranges from 5-15 and the numbers are around 80-90 students. You can imagine that the final performance is quite an experience for players and audience alike.
It is often at the Play-Day that new, more permanent chamber groups are formed who continue to play together on a regular basis. We have currently seven active chamber music groups at Coole Music.
