Co-ordination and Sounds:
The children explore the different sounds a drum or the body can make. Through drum-tales and games (originating from Africa and Latinamerica) they discover different techniques to use their hands and learn how to co-ordinate timing.
Body Percussion:
Combining movement, voice and body helps children to center themselves rhythmically, to interiorize rhythm-patterns and to develop body independence. These are all useful skills for learning most musical instruments.

With a selection of simplified African and Latin American rhythms the children make music applying pulse and sounds. Each groove is composed by 2 to 3 different rhythmic patterns. By actively playing as well as listening they are introduced to the very basics of polyrhythmics. Also, they learn a very important element of making music in a group - everyone plays an essential part no matter how big or small it is.
Drumming and Dyspraxia:
For children with a diagnosis of dyspraxia, drumming can be an enjoyable and helpful learning experience.
The Playful Percussion classes are fun, no homework is required, and the level of co-ordination required to successfully participate is low compared to that of e.g. learning the violin or piano where hands are doing two different actions and sight-reading is involved.
